Information ha® been received through tlie League of Nations that military operations on the Kru coast of Liberia have resulted m the destruction of a number of villages and the loss of more than 100 lives. Sir John Simon said in the House oi Commons that the present situation ■is that some 1200 natives had been driven by tho forces of tlie Liberian Government from their ruined villages into the bush in a manner which admitted of no excuse and on grounds which, taken at their strongest, were wholly inadequate.' The League Council had recently been considering remedial measures .proposed by tlie Liberia committee. He would continue to do everything in liis power to ensure that these measures were both speedy and effective..
