Ulster’s future constitutional position may be dramatically affected if Free State Senate passes the loUth Bill, says the “New Chronicles’ Bellas t correspondent. An Irish authority on international law asserts that if the Bill is passed the Northern Ireland Parliament may cease to exist as Ulster lias retained direct control by the British House of Commons ever since the Treaty was signed. Ho points out that Ulster Unionists held that Self-Government was forced on them and if the Free tetates Oath Bill is passed the Ulster Government may take the view that the agreement which brought both Governments into existence has been broken, thus freeing them from its obligations and ending Air De Valera s hope for a united Ireland. FIERY SENATE SPEECHES ADJOURNMENT OF DEBATE Received 12.1 Q p.m. to-day. LONDON, May 25. The Irish Senate was crowded when Air Do Valera submitted the Oath Bill. Air James Douglas said Air De Valera could have based the negotiations on a resolution favouring the abolition of the oath instead of choosing a method which injured trade and caused uncertainty. ' Alembership of the British Commonwealth was a safeguard for political freedom. All- Sean AloUroy, who escaped with Air Do Valera from Lincoln gaol, denounced the Bill as an act of political piracy-, whose authors wanted to scuttle the ship of State. The debate was adjourned until June 1.
