At North Allerton buildings were shaken to their foundations by this morning’s earthquake. Miss Christabel Panklmrst and sundry clergymen declare the earthquake portends the second coming of the Redeemer. The sea end of the Southend pier, which is a mile and a half long, heaved as if a gale had driven up a heavy swell, and it is reported that some 70 miles off Scarborough an explosion like depth bombs, which followed the disturbance, listed a steamer.
