ELTHAM.

j PIPER. GOWER. HONOURED. | At the weeky practice of the Ell tham Pipe Band last Friday evening a presentation was made to one of the members, Piper L. J. Gower, on the eve of his marriage. The president, Mr. J. L. Campbell, said that the band members desired to express their goodwill and esteem for Piper Gower, who was one of the older members, and who had first joined up as a drummer and made good. He had been a loyal member of the band, had supported it in every possible way, and his help had been of very material benefit. Mr. Campbell trusted that Piper Gower would continue to take the same interest in the band as lie had done in the past. On behalf of the band, the president wished him every- happiness and prosperity in his married life and expressed pleasure in handing him a token of their esteem. The present was a handsome! barometer in an oak case, bearing a silver plate suitably inscribed. The secretary (Air. C. Carneross) in endorsing Mr. Campbell’s remarks, said Piper Gower’s career .in the band had been an honourable one. His record both on and off the field bad been highly creditable, and he bad .brought more honours to the band than any other member. At the time the band competed at the Exhibition contest, Piper Gower had been secretary and had carried out the onerous duties most creditably.

Piper Gower briefly and happily replied, stating that some of the happiest and most enjoyable times of his life had been spent with the Eltham Pipe Band. He would carry on. as in the past. He thanked members sincerely both for their gift and the good wishes accompanying; it. The ..singing of “For jle's a Jolly Good Fellow” concluded a very pleasant interlude.
