The American athlete Lermond appeared in a mile invitation handicap, which was run in drizzling rain. lie conceded big starts. Lermond was fourth. The -winner’s time was 4min. 29 4-ssec., and Lermond’s time was -lmin. 34sec. He expected another week’s training .will bring him into form. WOMEN’S WORLD RECORD. SYDNEY. .Tan. 12. The sprinter Carlton equalled the Australian record of 9 4-osec. for the 100 yards handicap at yesterday’s athletic sports. He beat, McKinson (2yds handicap) and Vaughan (3yds). Clarice Kennedy, Western Suburbs, from scratch won the women’s 80 metres hurdles. She heat R. Winter (2 yds) and X. Gould (3yds). Miss Kennedy’s time of 121-see. was a world’s record. Miss You. Bredow. Germany, the previous holder, had won the record ‘with 12 4-osec.
