CONSERVATIVE LEADERSHIP
CHANGE URGED ]
VIGOROUS PRESS CRITICISM
MR. BALDWIN ATTACKED.
(United Press Association —by Electric Telegrapn Copyright.) LONDON, Jan. 5. One of Lord Kothennere’s newspapers, the widely-circulated “Sunday .Pictorial,” gives great prominence to an article frankly advocating Lord Beaverbrook for the leadership of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister. “All parties suffer from bad leadership,” tne paper says. “Mr. Baldwin as leader of the Conservatives possesses a record of incompetence, disaster and blundering. His only defenders are a small clique of personal friends. The remainder ot lii.s followers criticise him openly and bitterly. The rank and file demand vigorous successful leadership. They are convinced the leader must he found outside the established hierarchy. All this explains why Lord Beaverbrook and his Empire crusade attract adherents.” The Kothennere newspapers will tomorrow inaugurate an economic policy for the restoration of prosperity based on high protection for British manufacturers and workers, but no food taxes, substituting for such taxes subsidies’for the benefit of farms and farm workers. Lord Kothennere holds that these subsidies are easily payable: by a reduction of what he considers extravagant expenditure on social services.
