HAWERA MAIN SCHOOL.
ATHLETIC SPORTS MEETING. Yesterday afternoon a sports meeting was held at the Hawera Main School grounds, when quite a largo number of the pupils from the ages of eight to 14 and. over took part. , The events were for both boys and girls, and the chief events were the four distances competed for by tlie lour clans of the school, the Wekas winning by a fair margin of points. These races will be run periodically throughout the year when school resumes after the Christmas vacation, and will give an excellent guide to the ultimate selection for the team to represent the school in the Dixon, Banner competitions. The distances run yesterday were 100 yards (seniors), 75 yards (juniors),. 120 yards (seniors), and 100 yards' (juniors), points to count for each; race three, two and one. The result proved an easy victory' for the Wekas, with only one point, between Moa and Tui respectively and Kiwi fourth. As the school is divided into four clans, no names were taken,; it being considered that the name of; each clan would be sufficient. To provide competition among the' younger children, two races were rim for those of every age, and resulted, in several keen contests. 1
