SUNDAY SCHOOL WORK.

BAPTIST CHURCH

ANNIVERSARY MEETINGS. The work of the Sunday School in connection with the Baptist Church has shown a healthy growth since its inception in Hawera, and during last year this was continued, the numbers increasing - form 34 to 46, and the teachers from six to seven. On Sunday the anniversary was celebrated. and last night, these functions wore concluded with a business meeting-, and concert in the Scouts’ Hall. Rev. L. 0. IT. Barbour, and the superintendent (Mr. P. Brett) read the annual report, showing how well the work was progressing. The prizes were thc-n presented, the list showing seventeen firsts (over 90 per cent.), and six seconds. A very interesting programme was then given, on the Graded class system —the first part by the primers, thou the .juniors, and then the more advanced. The items bv the two former included musical and elocutionary items, and the contribution by the oldcr pupils was something - never done before in Hawera—a. Bible play, entitled “Up up from Egypt.’’ Tu it the characters were exceedingly well taken by the scholars. This was organised and directed by Mrs. Barbour, and was a great, success. A feature of the evening was the special lighting scheme, which proved a great help to the young performers. All concerned are entitled to much commendation for their good work.
