■Mr. A. Whisker,- locomotive inspector, of Wellington, has been appointed coal super-visor for . the New Zealand Railways under the recommendation of the recent coal inquiry.
The only Rockefeller travelling fellowship allotted to New Zealand this year has been awarded to Mr H. D. Skinner, a son of 'Mr. and Mrs Skinner, of-New Plymouth. Mr D. Skinner, who us at present lecturer in ethnology at the, University of Otago, will leave .for' San> Franeiseo in November.
'The annual report of the Taranaki Employers' Federation expresses regret that during the year the president (Mr C. Carter) was, through illhealth, compelled to relinquish the office, and places on record. 1 keen appreciation of the enthusiasm displayed 1 by Mr Carter in association matters. “It is gratifying to report that Mi - Carter is now restored to his usual health,’’ the report says. “Feeling that it was desirable that Mr Carter’s experience and knowledge should • not be altogether lost to> the association, he was granted i leave of absence, and the vicepresident, Mr A. F. San iff or d, was appointed acting-president for the remainder of the year.—Taranaki Herald.
