SOUTH TARANAKI TOWN'BOARDS

POWER BOARD REPRESENTATIVES.

Elections of members of town boards in South Taranaki and representatives on the various power boards were held yesterday, results being as follow: ■ MANAIA TOWN BOARD. .

To fill seven vacancies on the Manaia Town Board ten candidates were nominated. The total of 231 votes were cast by 386 eligible voters, the successful candidates, together with the votes polled by each being: James Hickey 173, Valentine H. Hobday 151, ■Norman C. Innes 132, James A. G. Cosgrove 130, Henry Mead 124, Edward J. Massey 117, Harry Holmes 110. , A Votes polled by nominees not elected were: Henry E. Lloyd 98, Edwin J. Kendall 68, Carl E. Hansen 26. Norman C. Innes, retiring representative of the board on the South Taranaki Electric Power Board, was re-elected unopposed. NORMANBY TOWN BOARD.

The following' were elected to fill the five vacancies on the Normanby Town Board, for which nine candidates offered themselves: —Alexander Galloway 99, Thomas Lloyd, junr., 97, Chas. J. 'Preston 94, Joseph P. Leydon 93, Ashley C. Hills 83. Votes- polled by the unsuccessful candidates were: —John Forbes 44, Geo W. Gaue 43, Joseph A. Archibald 29, Arthur McEwan 23. As the Town Board’s representative on the South Taranaki Electric Power Board, Chas.i J. Preston was declared elected, he having polled 87 votes. The other nominee, Geo. W. Gane, secured 44 votes. -

KAPONGA TOWN BOARD

Just over 50 per cent, of the voters in the Kaponga town district recorded their votes yesterday,: 130 votes being exercised of 257 on the roll. To fill seven seats, eleven nominations .were received, the successful candidates being:— James P. Gibson 99, Oh as. E. Betts 95; Alan R. Bates 81, Robert A. Law 81,' James F. Charters 73, Daniel J. Keliely 70, Arthur J. Herbert 65. ’ Votes polled by the remaining nominees were as follows: —Richard E. Williams 59, William E. Hollard 54, William J. Noonan 51, Chas. H. Brewer 33.

Fairly keen interest was manifested by electors, and -the total number _of votes cast compares favourably with the figures in previous contests. The returning officer (Mr G. P. Cook), who was assisted by Mr J. A. Dawson, as scrutineer, announced the result with commendable promptitude. Of the successful candidates it may be mentioned that Commissioner Betts has, with the exception of one term, continuously occupied a seat on the hoard since* its first meeting on October 12, 1905; Commissioners Bates, Herbert, Kehely, and Law are now entering upon their second term, whilst Commissioners Charters and Gibson are new to local civic honours. Both the newly-elected commissioners are respected and popular members of the eomunmity, credited with the possession of keen business ability, and likely to serve the town well in their, latest sphere of Usefulness, in which they replace ex-Commissioners J. A. Dawson (resigned) and 11. E. Williams.

OPUNAKE TOWN BOARD

The 5 Opunake town district representatives on the Opunake Electric Power Board were elected to fill the two vacancies as follows: Charles A. Trotter 100, John P. Burton 99. Of 500 eligible voters only 132 cast their votes.

Adolphus A. iMoore, who was not elected, polled 58 votes. 1 The nominations for the town board exactly filled the bi'll, and those nominated were declared elected. The personnel of the board is: Joseph Caddy, Henry G Davey, Walter Fawcett, Walter E. Gunson, Frederick Hammond, Hector F. Mimro, Charles A. Trotter.
