FLOWER SHOW.

MAN AT A PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION

All connected with the management and direction of the anuua’l flower show and sale of work held by the Presbyterian Church, Manaia, are entitled to the greatest credit for a function which markedly maintained its place in the long list of successes secured under the auspices of that church. The response to the call for entries' Ava®'prompt and liberal, with the result that the displayl seen in the Town Hali, Manaia, yesterday was, if anything, larger than anV previous show, while in addition the quality all round was probably the best that had been displayed there. Narcissi were, of course, the feature, and the judges were very enthusiastic in their approval. Mr. Rogers said it was quite outstanding, and one of the best displays he hrid seen in the district He added that there was a good variety of blooms, and the champion, a Lord Roberts shown by Mrs. D. Mourie; was a particularly well-grown and handsome specimen. The hyacinths, wallflowers, polyanthi and primroses, ranunculi, pansies, heaths, freesias, and rhododendron® were marked out in a particularly fine collection of spring blooms, while the tables and mantelpieces were very good specimens oi decorative art. Altogether they made a capital display.

An added feature was the “on exhibition only” consignment of bulbs from Mr R. Gibson’s garden. He. is renowned for his output, sparing neither time, work, nor money in securing the best and growing them well. They made a representative collection, all remarkably nne blooms, and including several new. species, which attracted, much favourable attention. The stall-holders were:

Both-gave general satisfaction. - The hon. secretaries. Miss M. Mead and Mr. T. A. Bridge, had all arrangements in order, and everything went without a hitch. The stalls and the afternoon tea room all did excellent business, and the result of the effort should be satisfactorv to the committee.
