The articles had been returned. CASES AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, Aug. 9. At the Police Court, John Arthur Crawford (35), who came out of gaol on Saturday afternoon and the same evening stole from a motor car a coat containing a wallet, was sentenced to two years’ reformative treatment. The police described the accused a.s a wellknown sneak thief. Clement Murphy (22), who was arrested on Saturday night on, a charge of breaking and entering a shop, in Newton and stealing 15s, cheque books and goods valued a.t £5 12s, wa.s remanded to August 16. Morvyn Rov Walker (34) pleaded guilty to theft of £3O 5s 9d from the till of the Maple Furnishing Company, where he was employed as a clerk, and who was on probation for theft of £79 and had failed to find restitution, was sentenced to three years’ reformative treatment for theft and to a month for breach of his probation, sentence® to be concurrent.

Leomi MacMahon. a. young woman, was remanded to August 12 on a charge of stealing a georgette gown valued a.t £l9 10s > 6d from a city emnorimn. A detective .stated that .when the accused was before the court last week there was only one charge. Since then between £SOO to £7OO worth of goods had been traced to her possession. There were suspicions eircumstamices concerning the accused. The accused’ asked .for bail, which was fixed at £SOO. Claud Capron (20), who was giveu probation by the Supreme Court last week on a charge of forgery, was sentenced to two months’ gaol for stealing a registered letter containing «• returned soldier’s pension of £2 3s 4d.
