ROYAL TOUR
USE OF H.M.S. RENOWN
PURPOSE OP VISIT REALITY OF IMPERIAL UNITY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT Received 30.30 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Aug. S. It is learned, in official circles tliat it has been decided that H.M.S. Renown shall be used for the tour of the Duke and Duchess of York, provided always that the Admiralty is able to give effect to the decision. The Admiralty states that at present the matter is under discussion, and any statement that a decision has been made is premature. It is understood that the official announcement may be expected towards the end of next week. The final arrangements are to be adjusted in harmony with the desire expressed by all parties concerned that the visit should, in every sense, be a royal visit throughout. It has been the desire of Royal and other circles that the visit should afford a full opportunity for demonstrating the reality of Imperial relations, including the potency of the British Navy, which, will be happily illustrated by the association of the famous battle-cruiser with the visit. Dominion and the New Zealand Governments have been approached in connection with the visit, but there has not ye*, been time for a definite decision in connection with the changed plans.— Aus.-N.Z. THE REPORTED ALTERATION. NOT YET OFFICIALLY" ANNOUNCED. . Received 11.50 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Aug. 8. The majority of London newspapers, together with the now's agencies, publish from correspondents in Australia, the change iu the plans for the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Y'crk, also the expressions of disappointment felt in Australia in connection therewith. It is indicated from these announcements that the Australian Government was aware that the Duke and Duchess of l r ork will travel in the Renown, calling at Fremantle, Adelaide and Hobart, thence going to New Zealand and returning to Eastern Australia for the purpose of officially opening Canberra. The Daily Telegraph’s Melbourne correspondent states that the changes of the route were confirmed in Australia, adding that the official announcement is expected simultaneously in Australia and England during the week-end. In the meantime, official circles iu London neither confirm nor deny the changes. It is assumed that they are awaiting the official declaration.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
