CATHOLIC MISSION.
YESTERDAY’S SERVICES. That the mission is arousing considerable interest was evidenced by the large congregations at both the morning and evening exercises yesterday. The church was well filled at the morning Masses, at the first of which 25b 1 persons received Holy Communion. At the last Mass the eloquent missioner, Father McCarthy, spoke on the value of the human soul. “God created it, Christ redeemed it, the lloh Ghost sanctifies it, and it is our duty to save it,” he said. “We must seriously take up this all-important work, everything else is merely of secondary importance.” Last evening over 500 were packed into the church. The preacher delivered'a- stirring address that touched the hearts of his hearers. He spoke on the malice of sin, the soul’s real enemyq God had a right to the homage of his subjects, inanimate creation obeyed the laws laid down by the Creator of all things. Man alone challenged God’s right to homage, and joined the rebel angels in their defiant “I will not serve.” The malice of sin became Judas-like perfidy' when it was turned against a loving Redeemer. Sin despoiled, the soul of its merits, and desecrated what was once the sanctuary of God. Large congregations attended the three Masses this morning, when Father McCarthy' spoke on repentance. Again very' large numbers received Holy' Communion. This evening at 7'.30 the sermon will he on “Death, the Great Assize.”
