TARiAcN AKI ASSCXJI ATI ON MEETS. The executive of the Taranaki Hockey Association, together with representaitiv.es of the midie.-, Hockey Association, met in .E'ltham last night for the main purpose of arranging a ladies’ and men’s tournament. Alter full consideration on the matter it was decided to hold a men’s five-a-side ana a, ladies’ tournament in McLain on either August 2G or September 2. The men’s competition is to comprise senior and junior teams, the junior teams, to be comprised of members who have not played more than one season in competition hockey. The details of the tournament were left with the joint ladies’ and men’s ■association ,secretinies to arrange. It was decided to endeavour to arrange a representative match with the Wanganui Men’s Association, to be played at Wanganui some time in August, and also a representative match between the Wanganui ladies and the Taranaki ladies.

The seoretiairy of the Kaponga Club wrote offering to play the. filth am team at Kapouga- and the takings to be donated to the Taranaki Hockey Association. —The offer wjais accepted and the match is to be arranged for the 19 th inst.

The secretary (Mr. Jackson) reported that, he had found it impossible to arrange a Ta-raniaki representative team to compete in the cim tournament at Gisborne, owing to the heavy cost of travelling, which lie estimated at £l2O for the trip. The New Zealand Hockey Association wrote replying to the resolution of protest by the Taranaki Hockey Association with regard to the special treatment accorded with regard to the Wellington Association for the Indian Armly .match. The letter stated that the Wellington Association had lastyear lost a considerable sum over the Australian team’s visit and also in connection with the test, match with Australia. In consequence the Wellington Association had .sent a deputation to the New Zealand Hockey Association before the Indian Army team had left India, stating, that it did not want to be- a. drag on, the pool this year, and. if it fell over the Indian Army match it wanted to fall alone, but if the Indian match was a great success the Wellington Association was quite prepared to pay more than its satire of the- expenses of the tour. Oh this understanding, therefore, .special arrangements were made with Wellington. Mr. Hi. C. Johnson said that what he took exception to was that the special arrangements, were made with Wellington, while all the other associations wore held to hard and fast conditions. He contended thax> all the affiliated associations should: have been given an equal chance of making its own arrangements regarding the match played in their district.

The president, Air-. 1. J. Bridgcr, 'said that if the explanation which was now received had been given before if would not have been necessary to pass such .strong resolutions over the matter, as were passed. He considered 'that the committees action was amply justified, as on the evidence before the meeting it was quite apparent that Wellington, had been given special conditions that were a great incentive to push the sale of tickets arid otherwise 'boost the match for their own benefit largely. Hiad Taranaki been given the same chance to profit .by an extra effort there is no duob't that it would have 'been done and they would have made a good profit. The terms .submitted to other associations were rigid and no matter what the profit had been the New Zealand Hockey Association was to receive s-ame. However, the letter was a feasible explanation and was in a degree satisfactory. The letter was received.
