CALEDONIAN SPORTS.
PROVINCIAL COAIAIITTEE AIEETS
A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Provincial Caledonian Sports Association was held at Stratford on Monday evening, when there were prose tit 20 delegates from Hawera, Aur-on, Eltliam, Stratford, and new Plymouth, Chieftain J. Campbell (Eltliam) presiding.
The following were elected chieftains of tho association: Messrs W. G. Simpson and J. B. Laurenson (Hawera Society and band), J. Nasmith, J. Austin (New Plymouth), V . Kennedy, J. Jamieson (Stratford), D. Clements (Eltham), A. AI. Brown (Anroa), E. J. Rogers (To Kiri). It was decided to incorporate the society, a committee being appointed to drriw up provisional rule®. It wa® stated that the committee in charge of the programme would shortly submit a report. The first Wednesday in February was agreed upon as being the most- suitable date; for holding the sports, provided the Egmont Racing Club’s meeting was not- held on that date. It was stated that- this was practically the only date upon which could be attracted the; professional pipers and dancers who follow the circuit of sports. The- following motions were carried unanimously: —(1) That the Society he affiliated with the N.Z. Piping and Dancing Association. (2) That tbfe society be affiliated with the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Club. (3) That the society he affiliated with the New Zealand Running and Cycling Club (professional).
The chairman thanked thy, delegates for attending, and said, the enthusiasm shown augured well for a. successful gathering. He hoped that the firstsports meeting r.t Hawera. would be made a- certain tsuccies.s. to. ensure the continaunce of the association’s activities.
