SHEEP DOG TRIALS.

T A KO U - Al ATE Al ATE AO N G A CLUB. •A CHANGE OF TITLE. At the annual meeting of the TakouAlatemateonga Sheep Dog Trial Glut), held on Friday at Alangamangi Hall, there was an attendance of 30, and Mr L. E. Jackson, (president) was in the chair. The president’s report was as be ow : ‘‘X am pleased to state that the profit made for the year was slightly over £3O, and should be considered fairly satisfactory. The trials held in March were a success, and were, 1 believe, commented on very favourab y bv outside competitors and patrons. From the experience gained, no doubt improvements can be made in the future, which, will enhance the popularity and attendance of our trials. With the object of making our club better known, and also ol gaining increased support, I would suggest tlnvt tlie name be altered to Eltham-lakou. This would more correctly describe our district and would. I believe, benefit our club, both financially and otherwise. The balance-sheet showed that the total receipts tor tlie year were £124, while expenditure totalled £96 —a profit on the year’s working of about £2B. The club opened the year with a balance of £46, and closed with a credit of £74. . , in moving the adoptiomjol the eport and balance-sheet, the president thanked members and competitors for their assistance. It was good for members to come from their farms* and meet together for a day or two “off the chain.” ... Mr L. Bunn, in seconding, said the change of name was a good idea, because it explained their locality Letter. There would, however, be some difficulty with the shields and cups, hut that could be got over. Air H. Gower advocated no change, on tlie ground that Eltham had dene nothing to advertise the club. Token and Alatemateongft were, lie said, known through the length and breath of the Island, and they must promote the interests of the district. Air L. Gow<er said people wondered where Takou was, and Eltham would show them where to get off to* go to the club’s district. Air H. Gower: “For my part, it is sad to see* Matemateonga wiped out.” A proposal that the name be left as before was defeated, and, on the motion of Air L. Gower, seconded by Air L. Bunn, it was decided that the name be changed to “Eltham-Takou,” and that the trials be held at Alangamingi. The election of officers resultled as follows :—•Patron, Sir Walter Cairncross ; president, AL- L. E. Jackson; secretary, Air P. R*. Brown; assistantsecrotaiv. Air P. Forrester; auditor, Air W. H. Sproull; executive committee, Afessrs A. Doole, L. Bunn, H. ower, W. H. Sproull, R. S. W. Hunt, G. Brown, T. Riley, AX. M. Scott, J. Nairn, W. Trembath, E. Forrester, F. Gower, Ei. P. Wells and A. Stannard; vice-presidents, Alessrs W. G. White, W. J. Tristram, A. O. Casey, T. B. Crump, G. Peebles, C. S. Stunners, C. C, McGregor, Saunders, P. AV. Chinnery, E. C’are, C. J. Belcher, R. J. Knuckey. O. AX. P. Forrester, O. AfcAloon, S. Norris, J. Crabtree, H. J. AXorton. AV. H. Perry, AV. Deed, J. Hickey. A. Kirk, L. Nairn, W. Rutherford, L. AVeir, Ij. Bremner, A. A. Stewart, J. Swindlehurst, J. Richards, J. O’Hagan. In acknowledging his re-election as president. AXr Jackson said lie thanked them for tlie honour, and would try to run the club lietter and perhaps increase its finance and its popularity. THE PROGRAAIAXE. Considerable discussion ensued in reference to a* suggestion made* that the prizes should be increased .in one event. After thrashing out the question at some length, it was decided to increase the amounts paid in two events. On the motion of Air P. Forrester, it was decided to increase the yarding event to £2O, divided as follows First CIO, second £6, third £3, fourth £1 and to make the* nomination fee 5s ; also the huntaway to £l3, as follows: £6, £4, £2, and £l, with nominations as before. - The mention of the last event — huntaway, head and bring back —for which a trophy had been held, and which* had been won outright by Air A. Alnsters, raised the question of boundaries, and it was said that these decided the question of who was eligible to-compete. A suggestion was made that this should be cut out, but eventually it was decided to leave it until the programme was being made out, and to try meantime to get a trophy. It was decided to endeavour to secure the services of Air 11. Guthrie as judge, and, failing him, Air J. R. Corrigan. Jt was decided to ask Messrs Brown Bros, to give tlie use of the ground and Air Hardwick Smith o|_ the sheep. Mr Brown said he would be pleased to do as last vear. The president said they were very grateful to these gentlemen, and his expression of thanks was cordially endorsed by all.

Appreciation was expressed of the good work of secretary and assistantsecretary. and the honorarium voted of £3 3s and £2 2s respectively. The date of the trials was fixed as last year—March 9. 10, 11. Air Bunn said they should have some .e.gu’ar means of transport, so that com. i>3titors wishing to catch trains after the meeting could do so. —This wa*s left to the committee. Jt was considered that more supervision of erection of hurdles and general course* arrangements was required, and after some discussion, Air A. Doole was appointed ground marshal. Air H. Gower said that members’ tickets should be sent out if subsriptions were paid, and it was considered that they would get more members if tins were done. Air Bunn sai dthey should get out canvassing and sell members’ tickets. Air Bunn referred to tlie neighbouring district of Puniwhakau, where a club was in course of formation, and asked all members to support that club. Members nronmed to do all they could to help. The meeting closed with tliio usual votes of thanks.
