WELLINGTON RUGBY. TEN THOUSAND AT CLUB MATCH (by telkohaph—muss association.) WELLINGTON, June 28. A notable feature of Rugby football in Wellington is the interest which is taken by the public in club games. Last -winter, notwithstanding exceptionally wet weather, the attendances were so large that the local union profited to the extent of £I4OO. This year, with a succession of fine Saturdays, public patronage is larger still, and culminated on Saturday in a crowd of 10,000 to witness the first meeting between the Athletic and Petone Clubs, who stand at the head of the list. Spectators were rewarded by a game between two welltrained teams as fast and exciting as an All Black side would give. Athletic, which is Porter’s (the All Black captain) club, won by 18 points to 10, and preserved its unbeaten record so far. WEDNESDAY UNION. THIS WEEK’S REFEREES. City v. Fraser Road, at Fraser Road, Air G. Guy. Norinanby v. Whareroa, at Whareroa, Air P. Alullan. Tolcaora v. Ohangai, at Ohangai, Mr H. A. K. AlcNae.
