MOTOR TOURING.
BTOr CROSS-STRAITS TRAFFIC. (By Telegraph —Special to the Star.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 9. North Island motorists paid special attention during the holidays to the touring possibilities of the .South Island. The increase in the number of motors shipped from Wellington was remarkable. By tlie Union Company’s steamers alone, between December 21 ;i:idi January 6, there were 234 motors shipped.—l6B to Picton, 47 to Lyttelton. and 16 to Dunedin. Motorists were quick to realise that the new eross-Stra.it steamer Tamahine had ample accommodation below deck for cars. They rushed this steamer so thoroughly on .Christmas Eve that, as the Tamahine had also a full passenger list, the company put on a cargo steamer to take the motors, instead, of lumbering up the deck with cars which could not be taken below.
