MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) BOWLING. A banner match between Patea and 'Manaia was played on the Manaia green yesterday (Wednesday), and a close and exciting game resulted in a win for Manaia by sis points, the scores being: Manaia 96, JPatea 90. Mr James Hickey, president of the local club, welcomed the visitors* and hoped that they \yquld spend a. pleasant afternoon. At the conclusion of the match, Mr J. Christensen returned thanks on behalf of the Patea bowlers for the hospitality shown to the team, and specially thanked the ladies for the afternoon tea. He called for three cheers; for the Manaia Club and also for the ladies. Mr Jas. Hickey responded on behalf: oi the local team. The scores were as follows, Manaia 1 players being mentioned first: Hornby, Sutton, Hotter, A. H. Christie 19; v. Glenny, Mercer, J. A, McKenna, W. Paterson 28. Meuli, Hickey, Badley, Johnson 23; v. Sheahan, G. Williams 28. SALE OF WORK. The sale of work in connection with St. OuGilbert's Church was held yesterday. There was a good, attendance of the public. The stalls were beautifully decorated with various coloured streamers. Good business was reported. Credit is due to the various stallholders for the way they worked to make this annual sale of work the success it was. There weTe many side's lio ws, and some of these were well thought out. Numerous guessing competitions were got off during the evening. some of the results being as follow: Cake (correct weight lllhs 70z.), Mrs. D. D'ick and Miss M.' iSymes ; ham (correct weight 15lbs 130-z.), Mii«g M. Long; cushion and slippers, B. Hunger; cushion, Miss M. Armitage; doll, Miss T. Tiwidle; cake, Miss- T. Hotter. During the evening an entertainment was held, in which Mr. Jock Husband, with his comio songs/ scored a success. A feature of the programme was the Paris ladies’ fashions, displayed by several local aftists. . The Manaia Municipal Brass Band played a wellselected programme, which was much appreciated. Much credit as due to. the energetic secretary, Mrs. T. Sutherland, for the able manner in which she carried out her many duties. The following were in charge of the stalls and side-shows: Produce, Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Barleyman, Mrs. Poynter, and Mr. T. Walker; flowers, Mrs. Limerick; cake, Mrs. T. Walker; apron, Mesdames Mitchell and Hayter and Miss Hazel Jacobson; fancy, Mrs. Swainson, Mrs. Dr. Davies. Mrs. T. Hair; plain, Mesdames A. j. Hansen and D. Price; toy, Mrs. and Miss Cassidy; sweet and rice cream, Mrs. C. Abbott, Misses S. Lewin and M. Davis; hoop-la, Mrs. and Miss Hotter; bran tub. Mesdames Symes and Hardwick and Misses Symes; doorkeeper, Mr. Lowe; Istage manager,- and accompanist, Mr. C. Abbott; amusement directors, Messrs O. Abbott and, T. Matlieson; tea rooms, Mesdames N„Davis, J. Hickey, T. Dee, A. Hansen, Misses White, and G. Hansen. The vicar. Rev. A. C. Swainson, heartily thanked all who had assisted in any way in the function, and also the public, which had helped by attending. . .
