AUSTRALIAN LABOUR. CLEARING OUT THE REDS. SPLIT IN PARTY LIKELY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Nov. 23, 12.20 p.m. SYDNEY. Nov. 23. After its defeat at the elections, an effort is being made to clean up tho Labour Party and to purge it of the Red element. Thi s may lead to a split in the party. The faction which is in control of the party executive is preparing to launch an attack against the Reds, who exercise controlling influences on the Trades and Labour Council. At the next meeting of the executive, this resolution will he moved: — “That the Australian Labour Party refuses affiliation with any union which is linked up with the Trades and Labour Counci 1 , and that bodies connected with the Trades and Labour Council be disallowed any representation in any connection with Labour Party meetings, while the Labour Council remains affiliated with the Third International.”
