HAWKE CUP. The new regulations and conditions in connection with the Hawke Cup matches showed that they would be played under the group system. A slight alteration, due to the amalgamation in Taranaki, was shown, the grouping now being:— I Waikato; 11, Waiapu and Poverty Bay; 111, Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay; IV, Taranaki and Wanganui; V, Rangitikei and Manawatu; VI, Wairarapa and South Hawke’s Bay; VII, Westland;' VIII, Marlborough and Nelson; IX, Southland and North Otago; X, South Canterbury and Ashburton. The winners in groups •would have to be decided by December 13, and challenges could bo sent in to the holders, but the order of playing matches would be arranged by the council. The holders will be.called upon to play only a reasonable number of matches in one season. For instance, Waikato and Westland might give notice to challenge without playing off, and the same applied to Marlborough, which is bracketed with, the present holders, Nelson. If associations in the same group cannot arrange to play off, they may. mutually agree on which is to have the right to challenge.
