LADIES’ TOURING TEAM. (BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., Aug. 19. After winning at Wanganui by a big margin, and by a niuoli lesser one at Oliakea against Feilding, the Taranaki ladies’ hockey representatives succumbed to Manawatu: to-day by 3 goals to 1. Play was very fast at times, and though the visitors put up a good defence, Manawatu scored twice in the first spell, W. Rayson sending in the first sliot from a pass by G. McKenzie, and M. Waters adding the second from a scramble in front of the goal. In the second half the home team further increased their lead, M. Newth accepting a pass at the circle after M. Waters had taken the ball down, and shooting home. Taranaki then brightened up greatly, and by repeated onslaughts kept their opponents continually on the defensive, although the efforts of the attacking wings were nullified through the failure of the forwards to take passes. From a free hit on the. twenty-five the visit, ing forwards then swept through to the circle, where W. Knight neatly drove the ball past the goalie, making the final score : Manawatu 3, Taranaki 1.
