YESTERDAY’S SESSION. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, July 23. Notice of intention to introduce the following Bills was also given:—'Apprentices Act Amendment Ball (Hon. G. J. Anderson) ; Popular Initiative and Referendum Bill (Mr. J. McCombs): Rotorua Borough Amendment Bill (Hon. R. F. Bollard); Counties Amendment. Bill (Hon. R. F. Bollard). Replying to Mr. J. McCombs (Lyttelton), the Hon. G. .T. Anderson said he regretted that the Rent Restriction Act, which expires on August 31, would have to be extended. Replying .to* the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. T. M, Wilford), the Prime Minister said the Budget would come down to-morrow. The usual custom wouLd be followed and the debate on the Budget would begin on Tuesday evening. On the motion of Mr. Isitt the second reading of the Religious Exercises in Schools Bill was postponed until August 5. On the motion of the Prime Minister, the Stone Quarries Amendment Bill was referred to the mines committee for a report. The House then went into committee on the Cook Island Amendment Bill, which was in charge of the Hon. Sir M. Pomare. It was reported without amendment.

Later the Cook Islands Amendment Bill was read a third time and passed. The House rose at 11 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. to-morrow. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The Iron and Steel Industries Amendment Bill was introduced from the House and read a first-time. The Weights land' Measures Bill was introduced, read a "first time and second time pro forma and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. Tlie Hon. G. M. Thomson’s Captive Birds Shooting Prohibition Bill was read a second time. The mover said it was identical with the English Aict and was intended to pub a stop to the cruel practice of .shooting pigeons and other birds for isport. The Council adjourned at 3.8 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
