SYDNEY CITY COUNCIL. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT SYDNEY. Dec. 1. Labour swept the polls at the City Council elections to-day, securing an absolute majority over the other par--1 ties. The defeated candidates included the Lord Mayor (Mr. Gilpin). The state of parties, is: Labour 15. Civic Reform 11. Polling in the elections aroused great interest, and voting proceeded all day with animation and every indication of a record poll. The decision was contested by the Civic Reform Party, the Labour Party and Independents, the latter . being largely constituted of what is knownr .as the break-away. portion of the Civic Reform Party. There were few absolutely independent candidates.
