LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Mails which left Auckland on 28tli October, yia Vancouver, arrived at London on 27th November. A public meeting will be held in the Manaia Town Hall to-morrow (Wednesday) night, at 8 o’clock. The object is to reform the Manaia Municipal Brass Band. All bandsmen are requested to attend, also all beginners who intend to join, as well as the public. It is to be hoped there will pe a good attendance of all, as the band is a great asset to Manaia. To-night at the Winter Show Buildings Miss Berg, demonstrator to the Wellington Gas Co., 'will give the second session of instruction in cooking by means of gas and the care of ga6 stoves. Certain articles will be prepared at the various sessions, and tonight these will consist of mutton pie 6, baked roly poly, sponge sandwich and milk rolls. Everybody is cordially invited.

The Rev. Palgrave Davy, founder and superintendent of the New Zealand Children’s Mission, is at present in Hawera. He is conducting a series of talks on Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress at the Presbyterian Hall. Last evening there was an attendance of about 150 children, who were greatly interested in Mr Davy’s address. The series will be continued until Friday evening, as indicated by advertisement in this issue.
