DISMISSAL OF TEACHERS.
ARBITRARY POWERS. , FOR EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Oct. 22 Some members of the Wellington Education Board to-day made JrU objection to certain provisions o" the Education Act Amendment Bill, now I-cl ore Parliament, with particular icference to- the provisions relating to the" dismissal of teachers. It seemed to one member that the Department -vas given very powers in this connection. The Board did not have anv say in the matter, and there was danger of dismissals becoming a political "question. It simply meant they were getting away from democratic rule to autocratic rule. Another member looked upon the provision as being yet another stop* towards the abolition of boards.
A motion the Board sl ou'd point out that Boards should have some say in the matter of dismissal was lost.
