■ When a railway guard makes the re(juGst “All tickets, please,” the onus is on the passengers within reasonable hearing to produce their tickets. It is not necessary for the official to make a specific personal demand. Such was the opinion expressed by Mr. EL S.M., in the Magistrate's Court at Wellington last week, when dealing with the case of Charles Gooc-h, who was charged with failing to produce a ticket when called for and with neglecting to pay his fare. His Worship remarked that defendant had acted honestly in. the matter, and therelore would be convicted and discharged. The public, however, must lemember that they had a statutory duty to assist the guard and produce then- tickets when the customary demand was addressed to travellers.
