RECURRENCE OF TROUBLE AT HERRIN. FEDERAL AID NEEDED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COP ZRIGHT Received Sept. 1, 10.10 a.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 30. A message from Marion, Illinois, states that there has been ’ a recurrence of the disturbances and -warring between the Ku Klux Klaif and the -anti-Klan forces now centred at Herrin, which was the scene of nine murders and the former Klan troubles. WilJiamsojv County, in which Herrin located, has been dubbed “bloody Williamson.” Seven persons to-day were ; killed. State troops have been summoned arid the feeling is very tense.—Reuter. The new outbreaks are indirectly due to a series of riots last. February, following which many were charged with murdeiv A garage which had been used as the Klan headquarters was visited by officers looking for an automobile which was used in the February troubles. Ai-med men within opened fire and the sheriff apd his deputies replied. Fighting then became general. It is expected that Federal aid may be needed to permanently restore order. —Aus.-N.Z.
