TRANSFER OF TERRITORY OPPOSED.

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT

Received Sept. 1, 10.10 a.m. . LONDON, Aug.' 31. Thirty thousand Orangemen participated, in a demonstration at Ashgrove, New.ry. The' Minister for Labour', Mr Andrews, assured them on behalf of his colleagues that the transfer of the Newry district to the Free State, if suggested, would not be considered a rectification of the border, but a transfer of sacred territory, to which they, as Unionists, would never agree. Some South, of Ireland leaders desired to effect the downfall of the Fonpire from witliiri. Squabbling over the territory transferred to them by tHe 1920 Act was folly which might lead to civil strife and disaster. A resolution was adopted pledging united and wholehearted support to ; the Northern Ireland Government in any crisis. —Reuter.
