OBITUARY.
MR. J. D. MITCHELL, MANAIA. The death occurred at Manaia, at 4.30 o’clock this morning, of Mr' J. D. Mitchell, a very old resident of the district. Mr, Mitchell came to New Zealand. 63 years ago and settled in Oamaru,. where he had his share of the trials and vicissitudes of the early settlers. Mr. Mitchell came to Manaia 43 years ago and became one ,of the best-known people of the district. He was a great sporting enthusiast and specialised in draught horses, being very successful at shows in many parts of New Zealand and Australia. He was a very capable judge of horses and a great show-ring man. With the late Mr. Mcßae he took a prominent part in starting the Waimate Hunt Club. Mr Mitchell was very popular and was always keen to help those who needed assistance. His demise at the age of 84 years will be learned with regret by a large circle of friends throughout Taranaki and in other parts of the Dominion. The funeral will leave the residence at 2 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon.
