South Africa in their first innings made 150 for four (Catterall 78 not out) when stumps were drawn. The South Africans, for the sixth time on the tour, decided to field after winning the toss. Somerset batted for 175 minutes. Macßrvaii played a forceful innings. Blanckenberg, coming on the third time at 198, took three for six. The tourists only made 34 for the first four wickets, and then Catterall and Taylor entered into a brilliant- partnership.
