CANCELLED 'WINE LICENSES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION- —COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Aug. 27. The licensing reduction board granted £35,760 compensation in connection with forty city and suburban wine licenses which were cancelled in March last.
EVASION OF TAXATION
MELBOURNE, Aug. 27. The Federal Government has appointed Judge Edwards as a Royal Commission to inquire into Mr. F. G. Scullins’ with reference to land taxes. ' TAXING MOTOR VEHICLES. Received Aug 28,. 9.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 28. Cabinet has decided to increase the taxation on motor vehicles, the tax to be- applied according to the weight of the vehicle. The Government anticipates that an additional £141.000 will be raised annually, bringing the taxation of motor vehicles of all classes to £400,000 per annum.
