UNSUSTAINED CHARGE. (by TELEGRAPH —Pr.ESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 25. V ithout leaving the box the jury found Charles Mills not guilty on a charge of alleged theft of a subscription to the now defunct paper Quick March. It was alleged that be collect-, ed.a subscription in 1921. and had not paid it hi. In summing, up Judge Salmond said the case was not satisfactory, and he scarcely thought the jnrv would consider that a case had been made out. SENTENCES PASSED. NAPIER, Aug. 25. At the Supreme Court prisoners were sentenced as follows: Frederick Milrov, theft of Government moneys, two years’ probation; Arthur George Edlin, nicest, three years’ informative treatment; Jack Wilmott Fink, uttering, twelve months’ bard labour; Herbert Harold Payne, .breaking, entering, and theft, eighteen months; Robert Henry, theft forgery and uttering, eighteen months’ hard labour. WELLINGTON SESSIONS. V ELLINGTON, August 25. John Edward Fitzgerald, who at one time was a member of the City Council. Harbour Board, Hospital Board and Technical Education Board, was today at the Supreme -Court sentenced to live months’ imprisonment. After two trials, Fitzgerald was found guilty on a charge of receiving motor tyres, knowing them to,have been dishonestly obtained. Judge Salmond said that he believed that drink was probably the cause of prisoner’s trouble's. It" was a matter for deep regret to see a man with .such a public record in this position. He had spoilt what had promised to tie ari honourable and successful life.
