KAPONGA QUEEN CARNIVAL.

FANCY DRESS BALL. Gav with vari-colouved streamers and the picturesque costumes worn by the majority of the 250 children and adult dancers in attendance at the plain and rancy di *ess ball organised in support one of queen carnival city candidate, the Kaponga Town Hall presented an attractive and animated scene on -Friday evening. Throughout a lengthy programme each mimoer met with appreciation, and the ftmetion proved one of the most enjoyable events organised during the carnival campaign, i'he children’s dances were arranged between 7.30 and 9.30 p.m., after winch the adults’ programme was continued until the early hours of the morning. Excellent music was provided by Miss Melville and Air. Clarke, and Messrs •i. Bolger and A. Sadler officiated capably as Al.C.’s. Slipper was served by a ladies’ committee supervised by Airs. M\ B. Fearon.

During the evening clever exhibitions ot Irish and fecottish national dances were given by the Alisses Guy and AlicKelson, of Alatapu, and an amusing item, which added greatly to the evening’s entertainment, was contributed by Air. \V. 13. Fearon,- who as “A Wowser Parson,” the “President of the Society for tlie Prevention of Dancing, " lectured dolefully and loretold the dreadful fate awaiting those "lio tailed to heed his precepts. The awards made by Mesdames Boyd and Hesseil, who judged the children’s costumes, were as follow: Girls over seven, Alolly AlcCarthv, “Sweet Laven. der”; boys over seven, Vincent Sother,ai, ** Y iicing 1 ’; under* seven, Aioreen 'otheran and ,Aiigk O’Dohoghue, “Bride and Bridegroom.” Among the adults Airs. Fearon’s “Red and VVhite Pierettes and Pierotts’l set, including Airs. Fearon and Air. J. Acjam, Aliss K. Carey and L. Loftus, Aliss E Carey and' H. Edwards, and; Miss H. Powell and L. Alalt, were greatly admired. Airs. Bolger’s set of “Waybacks,” including Airs. Bolger and Mr. B. Joyce, Airs. Doyle and Air. B. Melville Aliss Alorton and Air. H. Carey, Aliss J. Alelville and All*. J. Doyle, led the grand march and created much attention.
