NORTH AUCKLAND v. TARANAKI. A DRAWN CAME. Wo at her conditions were the most favourable possible for play on Saturday. but the match with North Auckland, though fast and at times interesting enough, did not produce a standard of play worthy of a representative match. There was a fairly large attendance cf spectator.-. South Auckland won the toss. Tarail ak kicked oil against the southerly breeze that was blowing. The kick was returned, and a rush by the Bine forwards put the local men. on the defence, and the ball going over the line they forced down. Rushing up-field after the kick out, the- Yellow forwards, headed by Hunt and Robinson, took play to the opposition territory, where Ennis took a mark and had a shot at goal. The Blues came downfield, and for a time play veered up and down without material advantage to either team. Then Taranaki backs came into action, and Johnston making a nice dash sent a good pass to Ross, who was however well taken by Moslem. Keeping up the pressure, they got in a series of useful dribbling and passing rushes which took them several times right to the line. Then the visitors asserted themselves, and Emerson and B. Finlavson went downfield. The hall came to Hamilton and he kicked, spoiling a promising movement. Up and down the play went till a hard kick made Taranaki force. Hunt and Walters headed a fine forward rush, and with Robinson took play well upfield. where the hall came out to D. Johnston, who. swerving cleverly, made a great dash and passed to Ennis. The latter carried on, and when blocked passed to Afouli, who dashed across near the corner and scored a good try. Sinclair’s kick just failed. Taranaki 3 North Auckland 0 The local men still attacked after the kick-out till Hamilton intercepted and dashed clow 11 fie Id. Sinclair stopped him well .and, taking a mark, lined well up. The Blues -were pressing vigorously and a nice passing rush between Wightman, Sowman and Simminson kept Taranaki on the defensive. From a mark shortly after Hamilton, with a, great kick, just failed to equalise. Again pressing, Finlaysou, Emerson and Sowman ‘leaded a fine dash that took play right under the posts, where Johnston forced. From the kick out Oliver secured and made a fine run clean through the opposing forwards and, passing to Ross, tihe latter sent it on to Ennis, and he to Johnston, but the defence was good. Again Johnston got away-, and after a- nice run passed to Ennis, who kicked, and thus gave away a distinct advantage. Ju«t after Walters secured and passed to R'oss, who returned it, and a nice passing rush took place betweeiU them till a knock forward nullified the advantage. Kivell and Kissick maintained the pressure, and passing out to Ross the speedy winger almost got across. Cunningham relieved and the Blues came away in great style till Sinclair checked them by taking and going right through the pack. Again the'; Blues pressed, B. Finlaysnn making a great run nearly to the lino. A free "kick gave Taranaki relief, and following up hard the forwards took play right" upfield, where Ross, securing in the loose, dashed through to score a wood fry. The kick failed.

Taranaki p North Auckland 0 Play was patchy till the Northerners came through in a great forward .rush, and faulty kicking by the Taranaki backs let them right through to the posts, where lor a broach of the rules they were awarded a penalty, and 'Hamilton had no difficulty in goaling. Taranaki 0 North Auckland 3 Following the kick out Wightman made a strong run. but Robinson spoilt the pafts, and taking the ball dashed upheld and passed to Ross. He failed to take and a good opening was lost. From a scrum Jeffries sent his backs away, all handling well, but running across field Meuli was crowded out. Shortly after half-time was called without further addition to the score. The second spell opened scrappily, and play though fast and vigorous was not effective. A loose rush ended in ki n fay son just failing to score. A free kick relieved Taranaki, and then e, h downfield, Robinson and 0 Rorke in the lead. Walters, seouring put in a capital run and passed to Paterson, who dashed across and scored. Emus failed with the kick. T a ran ak i p North Auckland 3 T his- visitors attacked strongly, B. Finla,\sou and Bryclon making a great dash. They continued to press."and near the twenty-five Rhodes took, and Coutt.s failing badly. Moslem, who had taken the pass, finished a really fine rim by getting over near the corner. The kick failed. Taranaki p North Auckland (; Spurred on by this success, the Rlues attacked strongly. Kissick and Walters however headed a great forward rush that; was checked only at the line, McLeod marking cleverly. Kivell took irom the kick and fending strongly put in a good run which was almost successful. A keen struggle took place on the line, but Wade relieved with a nice kick. Bac-k came Taranaki, and a passing rush ended in Meuli again being crowded over the side-line . Trie Blues retaliated and went upheld in good style. Ennis, intercepting, looked to have a clear run in, but be threw the ball away, and a likely opening was spoiled. Then Moslem got away, and making a brilliant run got to the opposing territory. and with Finlavson and Simminson just failed to secure a rrv. Keeping up the, attack B. Finlavson secured, and beating Coutt.s badly, passed to Emerson, who finished a good run by petting over the line. The kick failed. Taranaki p North Auckland p
