The Wembley stadium resembled a lake, six inches of water being registered on the racing tracks and avenues. The musical section and the palace of industry were flooded, and exhibits had to be removed. Women and children had to be, carried over portions of the grounds. Water poured under the doors of the British pavilion, and chairs floated around the bandstands. The concussion of thunderclaps smashed windows in fifteen bouses at Braintree, Essex. (Several houses were wrecked or set afire in other districts. The Wembley pageant was cancelled last night.
