OBITUARY.

MR, H. M. WOODWARD. The death occurred at his residence in Cameron Street, liawera, on Tuesday, of Mr. H. M. Woodward, at the age of 74 years. Mr. Woodward came to New Zealand from Australia, and had been in the service of the Bank of New Zealand, stationed at various towns in the Dominion, since about 1872. While in the service of the bank he proved himself a very capable officer, and held the position of relieving manager at a number of large branches. Many years ago he was stationed at Manaia, and there made the acquaintance of many residents in South Taranaki. He was a man who was widely liked and respected. Since his retirement from the Greymouth branch he had been living in Hawera. To his widow the deepest sympathy is extended.

The death took place at Napier on Sunday of Miss Alice AYagg, of Masterton. About four years ago Miss Wagg entered the Napier Hospital as a nurse, and was successful in passing her examinations. Seven months ago she contracted tubercular trouble whip carrying out her nursing duties, and for some time little hope had been hedd out of her recovery.

Airs. Johanna Brown died at Christchurch, after a very short illness. Airs. Brown was the relict of the late David Brown, a well-known farmer and contractor of the Amberlev district, and second daughter of the late Ranine] Wornall, of the Terrace. Leithfield, who was a pilgrim of Canterbury, arriving in the Sir George Raymour in 1850. The hospitality of the deceased was a household word among old residents in the northern district.

The death took place rt Kaiapoi of Mrs. Jane Freer, widow of the late Mr. Alipluiel Fraor, who was well known in public- life in Dunedin and Central Otago for inenv years. Airs, fraor' made many friends, and was esteemed by all who knew her. Rhe arrived in New Zealand over sixty years ago. Rhe is survived by seven sons and five daughters.
