ARBITRATION COURT. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. The Arbitration Court was engaged to-day in hearing an application for a Dominion award in the furniture matting trade. The pi M'-ipal conditions of the new award have been agreed to practically on the basis of the old award, with the exception of wages and the terms on which improvers are to be employed. The workers were asking for 3. weekly rate of wages instead ol an hourly one; also for an increase above the maximum skilled rate. The ■Employers are standing on the Court’s wage of 2s 2d per hour. ALLEGED THEFT OF MONEY. DUNEDIN, Aug. 20. Alexander Robert Kennedy, registrar of births, deaths and marriages, was charged at the Police Court this morning with the theft of £72, the property of the Government. The money is alleged to have been .■ taken between April and August. A remand was granted till August 26 for the auditor’s report. Bail was not asked for. AN ILLEGAL SALE. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 20. The Magistrate fined D. F. Glanville, chemist, £2 and costs on each of two charges under the Opium and Poisons Act in respect to the sale of Jaudanum.
