SWIMMING.
ASSOCIATION’S GREAT WORK. QUESTION IN THE HOUSE. Mr -T. A. Young (Hamilton) intends to ask the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. R. F. Bollard) whether, in view of the valuable work -done by the New Zealand Amateur Swimimng Association in annually teaching a large number of school children to swim efficiently, he will recommend the Cabinet this year to increase the grant to the association from £IOO to £SOO.
Mr Young added that during the 1923 season 5388 certificates were issued to children who passed m the tests set by the New Zealand .Amateur Swinumng Association. During the 1924 season a total of 11,814 certificates were issued, covering territory from Russell to the Bluff. Every centre of the association showed increases in the number of certificates over that oi the previous year. The increase in South Auckland centre was from 59 to 500.
