USE OF PAST RECORDS. (BY TELEGRAPH-—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 15. In the House to-dav the leader of the Opposition (Mr T. M. Wilford) asked the Minister for Justice whether it had been brought to his notice at any time that a judge in criminal trials had been informed of the police report upon a prisoner prior to the trial, and whether he would ascertain if that was the usual practice, and if so whether he would stop it on th& grounds that the history _of a prisoner should he furnished to a judge after a verdict and not before.

The Minister (Hon. C. J. Parr) said he could not the question offhand. He was not "aware that such was the practice, and he would make enquiries.
