BRITISH FLEET

GATE TO PACIFIC. CONCENTRATION OF BIG SHIPS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Aug. 16, 9.12 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 15. The Daily Mail’s naval correspondent points out that when Sir J. M. de Robeck hauls down his flag on the Queen Elizabeth the Atlantic fleettakes second place to the Mediterranean fleet, based at Malta, in accordance with a policy -which will enable all the strongest ships of the navy to be concentrated at the Pacific gateway within a fortnight. Whether it will be possible to maintain them there without a Singapore base is a question on which the Government and naval advisers have apparently agreed to differ.—Sydney Sun Cables.
