PERSONAL ITEMS.

It is learned (says a London cable), that Vice-Admiral Sir J. M. de Robeck has definitely declined the position of Governor-General of New Zealand. Messrs. A. A. Stewart, Eltham, and A. C. Lawrey, New Plymouth, have been admitted as barristers of the Supreme Court by His Honour the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout. The death occurred unexpectedly at his home at New Plymouth yesterday morning of Mr ; Charles Andrews, aged 71 years. The late Mr. Andrews was very well known to the farming community of the coastal district, having lived for many years at Okato. Retiring from fanning several years ago, he took up his residence in New Plymouth and further extended the circle of friends he had made during an active life, during which he took his shave of public duties by serving on the Taranaki County Council, the Hospital Board, and the Education Board. Mr. Andrews eame from England about 50 years ago and had lived in this district ever since. His wife predeceased him by a number of years, and they leave a large family, six daughters and .seven sons, to mourn their loss. Three other children died.
