SUTLEJ VALLEY CANAL.

The Times’ Simla correspondent telegraphs that rapid progress is being made with the big Sutlej Valley Canal project, of which the whole main line canal, it is expected, will be so far advanced by March, 1926, as to permit of the admission of water, and in consequence the starting of the colonisation of the now arid tracts. In the Bahawalpur section the existing canals have been widened already, and new distributories are working, thus making 30,000 acres of land now available for colonisation. This figure will be increased by 80,000 by next March. J
