LORD PLUMER LEAVES MALTA.
VX AF L’ECTiOXATE FAREWELL. (London Times.) Field-Marshal Lord Plumer left amidst impressive farewell scenes. When he came to Malta in 1019 the island was afflicted with riots, machine guns were posted throughout the town’ and the streets were beimr patrolled by sailors. Lord. Plainer’, s administration is a lesson in what tact can achieve-. This afternoon’s spontaneous demonstration was touching evidence of the island’s gratitude. On his Excellency’s arrival in Valletta from his country residence civic bands escorted the motor-car to the Palace through the crowded and heStrada Flowers \v<h‘6 showered from balconies and roses carpeted the street. The Alalia Regiment mounted guard in Palace-square. Lord Plumer said good-bye to his personal friends within the Palace, and the crowd cheered lustily when he and Lady Plumer appeared on the balcony. Students and bands escorted his motor-car to the Custom House, where a great number J of officials were waiting Roth the outgoing Governor and Lady Plumer were greatly moved as they embarked in the Admiral’s vachfc Bryonv and steamed out of the Grand Harbour escorted by flotillas of shore craft past the famous bastions of the Kniahts black with cheering crowds, while hands played and guns fired a- last salute.
