Fire

New Plymouth, September 17 A fire at 2 o'clock this morning at Waitara destroyed the Waitara Hotel, Diigdale's cabinetmaker's shop, and Samson's stationers and billiard room. The fire started in the hotel, which Captain Young had only taken possession of a few days ago. Later. The insurances are : Waitara Hotel buildings £9OO in the Sun, and £350 on stock and furniture in the Sun and £'2so in the Commercial Union ; Sampson's shops £3OO divided between the South British and National, and billiard room and fittings £l5O in South British; Dugdale's stock £250 in San. About £l5O worth was saved from tfce hotel. Captain Young, (who recently paid £IBOO for goodwill) escaped with his night-clothing, the servants and boarders also losing everything. Sampson's loss is estimated at £3OO over insurances, and Dugdale's over £2OO.
