Parliamentary Notes.

IN THE HOUSE AND COUNCIL. [By Teuegraph.] [From our Special Reporter.] Wellington, This day. OLD AGE PENSIONS. The House was occupied all the afternoon on the Old Age Pensions Bill. The only amendment made was one at clause 8, providing that no person shall receive a pension whose income from all sources exceeds ,£52 per annum. The Bill originally provided that a person was not entitled to a pension whose income exclusive of personal earnings exceeded £B6 a year. Mr Taylor's amendment to refer the Bill to a select committee was withdrawn. At one time in the afternoon there promised to be a renewal of W ednesttay's "scene," Mr Taylor charged the Premier with making an utterly untrue statement. Mr Seddon moved that the words be taken down, but at the ruling of the chair Mr Taylor jauntily withdrew his accusation and substituted "utterly incorrect." The remark of the junior member for Christchurch was occasioned by the Premier charging him with being the bitterest opponent of the Bill. At the evening sitting the discussion was continued on clause 8, which was ultimately passed as amended, and clauses 9 to 14 were agreed to. The House adjourned at 1.25 a.m. AN EXTENDED SESSION EXPECTED. The probability of the House having to assemble again after Christmas is now being seriously discussed. The further consideration of the Old Age Pensions Bill promises to occupy the greater part of next week. Then there are the Ocean mails resolutions, banking legislation, Public Works debate and estimates, Lai>d for Settlement Bill, and other important work yet to be done, and only four weeks before Xmas is reached. IN THE COUNCIL. The Hon. Mr Bonar has given notice to ask when the Government intend to introduce a measure dealing with the Bank of New Zealand Officers Guarantee Fund. following measures have passed 4/be& final stages in the Council: Education Boards Election Bill, Supreme Court Act Amendment Bill, and Sunday Labor in Mines Prevention Bill.
