Writing in the New Zealand Mail the other day, on the subject ot the depression of British uade and industry, Mr J. Dransfield said that he had calculated that the produce of five acres of wheat could be brought from Chicago to Liverpool at less than the cost of manuring one acre of wheat iu England. The acreage laid down in wheat in the Ol 1 Country has fallen from 4 millions in 1869 to millions. British farming capital is estimated to have depreciated by 20U millions since It 80. A patent medicine advertisement is headed “ Wnat Kills Americans.” This is probably true, but it is a poor recvmmeudation for the medicine.
