FOR THE CUP,
GENERAL TRAINING NOTES. (owir correspondent.') Auckland, last night. The following acceptances for the Auckland Cup have bsen received Nelson Sextant Victoria Friendship Clogs Cannon Leorina Acceptances for the other events are good. There has not been much betting to-day. NeDon and Sextant are still the favorites for the Cup. At Ellerslie this morning Nelson put in a strong gallop over Cup distance, getting over the ground in excellent style. Sextant accomplished two miles on the plough at hia best pace, the time recorded being Bmin 42seo. The gallop was good, but the colt showed signs of lameness on being pulled up. Lady Norah and Telford went twice round, the last six furlongs being at top, speed. Lady Norah ran away from her companion at the finish. Yesterday Victoria and Cannon were tried over Cup distanoe*on the course proper, the latter having decidedly the best of it. The pair bad Howitzer and Derringer for companions on the journey.
Kar aka Races. The following acceptances for the Karaka races were received on Thursday HANDIOAP. Penguin Nina Cairngorm Chiquita Pouawa BBAOZXZT. Minstrell Frailty Mute PouaWa Wuiwera Camilla Ahua Vanity Roma. Hcant.ES. Nancy Nina Mo Duadine BAIDBN pmiE. Chlquita The Witch Fitz-James and Nora have been scratched for the Karaka Handicap. NOTES BY " WILLOW." There being only two for the Maiden Plate I must certainly select Chiquita. In the Handicap Hurdles I think Nancy can do the trick, as I doubt Duadine's ability to give her ten pounds. Nina, if reserved for the Karaka Handicap, should be near it, but Penguin, notwithstanding his suspicious leg, is my fancy ; and Cairngorm not being one to be sneezed at, I place 'hern thus:—Penguin, 1; Cairngorm, 2; Nina, 8.
In the Ladies’ Bracelet although Minstrel is a good one, I think, from what I can hear, Mute holds him in hand.
I amjsorry that through illness I eannot give you more relative to the races, still I think your readers who beak the above tips will no: ba far out.
