A TERRIBLE BATTLE.
SMITH AND KILRAIN. ONE HUNDRED AND SIX BOUNDS. A DRAWN MATCH. Pabib, Dot. 20. The great prize fighting match between Jem Smith, champion of England, and Jake Kilrain, champion of America, took place near Paris yesterday. The fight was of the most desperate character, 106 rounds being fought, and then the match was drawn. The match was for 10,000 dollars a side, and the “ Police Gazette" diamond belt. (This match has for months past caused the greatest excitement throughout England and America, and an immense amount of money was on the event. It was originally intended that the match should take place in Spain, Early in January next year. The sporting papers have spared no space in chronicling the progress of the training of the men, and the prediction that the fight would he of a most desperate description has heen proved by the result of the match. Kilrain was most fancied for he was the taller of the pair, had more science, and was longer in the reach. Kilrain is 28 years of age, stands 5 feet 104 inches high, and weighs 210 pounds. His chest is 41 inches, biceps 18 inches, forearm 14 inches, waist 84 inches, thigh 25 inches, calf 16J. It takes al7 inch collar to encircle his neck. He has an unbeaten record, is gentlemanly in anpearanoo, no bragger, and loves fighting, Jem Smith is 24 years of age. and has the cut aod physog of a pugilistic gladiator. He stands 5 feet 8 inches and weighs 182 pounds. The follow, ing are his measuiemtn:aChest 40Jinches, waist 36} inches, hips 40| inches, thigh 244, calf 16|, biceps 15}. He made his advent in pugilism in 1882, and also has an unbeaten record.)
